on a New Category
Kaleidescape invented the movie server category for luxury home cinema. The brand was established. The technology was extraordinary. But the engineers were tech-talking it over the heads of the very customers who should have been lining up. I stripped the complexity, established the luxury visual language, and made every custom home theater and yacht cinema owner feel what ownership would be like before they ever pressed play.
I designed the first retail packaging, created the product website, developed the full collateral system, and built the Quick Start Guide that shipped with every unit. But the work that went deepest was on the product itself. I designed the user interface for the Kaleidescape Music Server, an experience so original it earned a USPTO patent (Structured Playlists and User Interface, 2006). Individual song and whole album selection, presented through a visual system that made browsing a music library feel as cinematic as browsing a movie library.
